    Napping after 1:00 pm hurts sleep the following night. Eating a meal after 4:00 pm impacts sleep quality at night. Food needs time to digest before sleeping. Caffeine like coffee, tea ], chocolate and other drinks after noon will impact sleep that night. Have a cool room 66 - 70. Make sure the room is dark. No visible night lights when in bed. A hot shower or bath 2 hours before going to bed relaxes the body and prepares for sleep.

    Adequate daily exercise improves sleep. Riding a bicycle is a great way to exercise. Ebikes are bringing many older adults back to cycling. Cities need to do more to encourage people to ride bicycles. Safe protected bike lanes and trails are needed so adults and children can ride safely. Speak up for bicycles in your community. Bicycles make life and cities better. Ask your local transportation planner and elected officials to support more protected bike lanes and trails. Children should be riding a bicycle to school and not be driven in a minivan. Be healthier and happier. Ride a bicycle regularly.

    You are what you eat. Your diet impacts your health. Lower stress, reduce obesity, get enough sleep and more exercise are key to a healthy life. Obesity in children and adults is rising across the world. Fast food and sugary drinks including fruit juices are contributing to the problem of poor health and obesity. Eat a healthy plant based diet and exercise regularly. Reduce or ELIMINATE cows milk, eggs, cheese and meat. Eat more salad greens, beans, fruit and vegetables. Eliminate fast food, snacks like cookies, cakes, chips, and sugary drinks and juices. Every adult and child should own a bicycle and ride it regularly. Regular exercise will help you sleep better. Yoga is a great stress reducer. Obesity is all too common today. Get off the couch. Get off the phone, ipad or video game. A variety of stretching and other exercises help with increased mobility. Ride to work, ride to school, ride for fun. Every city should be a bicycle city. Speak up for bicycles in your community

    Hey sleep dr.. i have a question. I have osa.. cpap intolerable.. no mouth gaurd. I have tmj... denied inspire by aetna... so trying to fix this on my own. Bought a 02 finger sensor that records.. i have trained myslf to sleep upright in chair. I have done 42 days straight.. never dropping below 92% oxygen... why am i still napping all day.. today i slept 18 hrs... not having apneas... why is my napping nor going away??? Cliff

    Thank you so much for this content. I use cannabis to get me to sleep . Its effective 80% of the time . I cut off cannabis before. I got prescribed sleep medications/ anti depressants for insomnia .Knowing these medications have their negative long term effects. I didn't want to take a gamble and continue using the drugs long term .After several months I decided to stop taking them and went back to consuming cannabis because I just became desperate to sleep regularly again because I had to be up early for work .Its a personal problem I'm dealing with

    I got a night terror. This is only What i remember (1-2% of the dream) i jumped over a scary entity. Got teleported with a roblox loading screen to some roblox game But in real life. Then the dream ended

      Look up Dr. Michael Platt, who specializes in adrenaline dominance Which he says is the real cause of anxiety and insomnia among many other symptoms. There are lots of video interviews with him here on YT.

    Thank you so much for sharing this information. I've had insomnia for 3 years it just kind of suddenly creeped up after a lot of stressful events. I've seen countless doctors have had dozens of tests done. I was severely deficient in some different minerals and 5thp and GABA. I'm on 5thp but Gaba gives me anxiety; do you have a suggestion on what else I could take instead of gaba? Thank you!!

    No mention of the very common sleep maintenance insomnia which starts at menopause then persists. When (not if) i wake at 2-3am, I'm awake for upto 3 hours. I reckon about 2/3 of my female friends complain of the same. NONE of the other things you mention are relevant

    Actually mine has flipped .I was going to bed by twelve up at eight or nine .them my shifter schedule changed and I did something stupid started to drink coffee regular in the evening . Now I struggle to get adequate sleep .I go to bed early .like nine and get up between three to six am .

    I was prescribed ambien after suffering from chronic insomnia since early childhood (toddler years, even), even after other RX meds failed me. I was actually too afraid to ever take it, and everyone (including my doctor) looked at me crazy when I said so. I genuinely believe that terrible sleep is borderline better to deal with than some of the side-effects (specifically total memory blackout) of Ambien. The stress of potentially doing something dangerous under the influence would keep me up more than my regular insomnia did.

    I suffer from severe anxiety and I started doing a simple progressive sleep meditation where it talks to thru your body and your breathing. The challenge was to do it for 56 days and I’m so happy to say that despite my apnea and sleep issues, I’m now sleeping they the night, falling asleep faster and if I do wake up, I do the meditation and all right to sleep. My emotional health issues are better and I’m loving going to sleep. I did do god sleep hygiene. No tv or phone in the bedroom. Relaxing before bed and no caffeine after 3pm
